“Mind over matter” is a common phrase that dictates our lives from time to time.
Recently, I have started a new job in a gym. (I’m over the moon about this opportunity!) I have found that when I give people tours of our facility, some of them seem hesitant. They have made a huge step in the right direction by coming in and talking to us. Yet something seems to be blocking them in the moment. I have also tried to encourage people to visit and their fears get the best of them. This is a regular human feeling, not something to be ashamed of, but something to be aware of.
I have said it time and time again that after the first day in the gym, nothing will stop you. It has been significantly true for me. Each time I fall off the wagon, I become terrified to get back in the gym. But after that first workout, my nerves calm down and my hunger kicks in (no, not for a snack… for my goals, lol!)
We let our minds play tricks on us and stop us from doing what we love, making progress or changes, furthering our career, asking for that raise, etc. Once you stick to your guns and, as Nike would say, “JUST DO IT,” your life will begin to change for the better. You get a taste of what it is like to allow yourself to step closer to your dreams and goals. And you want more.
I challenge every single one of you this week to step out of your comfort zone and see what changes occur in your life. Pay close attention to what happens and ask yourself these questions: How do you feel? Are you proud of yourself? Will you do it again? Then encourage someone else to do the same. It really is a case of mind over matter.
Beat that voice in your head and shoot for the stars.
